Saulius Kruopis was born in 1960 in the city of Siauliai (Lithuania). He graduated as an art photographer from Stepas Жukas College and a painter from the National Academy of Arts. He attended private lectures with the most prominent artists of the time. In 1992 he completed an internship for 3 months at Loburg Castle (Germany), in 2001 — an internship for 3 months in Madhur and Vrindavan (India) with Professor Kamal Kapur.
Since 1995 Saulius Kruopis has been the organizer of the Annual International Plein Air Painting in Nida and a revivalist of ideas. Since 1999 founder and chairman of the Tiltas Artists Association (315 members), which continues the expressionist movement called the Brucke tradition. He is also a member of other organizations such as the Lithuanian Artists’ Union (since 1995), the Lithuania-India Scholarship (1996), the Esslingen Artists Guild (Germany) (2006), the Europa-Focus Artists Association (2013), the Baltic Region Artists Group in ARS Arrakoski gallery in Finland (2014). Saulius Kruopis actively publishes various albums related to art and history, is the author of numerous articles in the Lithuanian and international press.
He has been a recognized author since childhood — since his first art exhibition. He won the first competition for a postage stamp when Lithuania regained its independence (1990). He is a laureate of various prizes from the city of Neringa (2005), “Ogmios pulsas” (2000), the Prize of the Lithuanian Artists’ Union (2005). He also received the honorary citizen of Klaipeda award back in 2010.
The author has organized or participated in over 80 solo and 370 group exhibitions. Has organized over 50 international plein airs. All this was done in Lithuania and other countries, such as the USA, Nepal, India, Italy, Ukraine, Germany, Russia, Armenia, Finland, Denmark, Estonia, Belarus, Poland, Latvia. His paintings are kept in various private and public collections, such as the National Art Museum of Armenia.
